Having your air conditioning serviced and cleaned regularly improves efficiency and also removes any fungal build up. This is an extremely effective treatment ensuring that the system works properly and leaves a pleasant odour.
Car manufacturers generally recommend that your AC is serviced every 2 years. The gas also contains a lubricant necessary for the efficient mechanical operation of the compressor. It is NOT checked as part of your MOT test and re-gassing is not typically included in your service beyond checking for actual operation.
If your AC is blowing out warm air or only works intermittently, an AC recharge can bring back cold air when you need it most on hot days, and it assists in clearing misted windows in cold weather by drying the humid air entering the car from outside. It can also improve your fuel efficiency as there is less strain on the system and engine. Unpleasant smells coming from your air vents also suggest that your AC needs some attention.
The price you pay for an air conditioning recharge depends on the type of refrigerant gas in your car. The vast majority of cars on the road in the UK use two type of refrigerant- R134A and R1234YF. If your car requires R134A gas our cost to recharge is £69 including VAT. For cars requiring R1234YF gas the cost is £109. it is not possible to swop gases. R134A gas was no longer allowed in cars produced from around 2015 as it is considered more harmful to the environment. Cars produced later than this time are likely to require R1234YF gas, but we can check this for any individual car.
We will provide a cabin temperature reading before and after the re gas to record improvement, and even in a functioning air con system we would expect to see an improvement in low temperatures achieved.
Included in our recharge cost (or available for £10 if applied without AC service) is a purge of the air delivery system using a cleansing spray into the vent system that kills off and help prevents unwanted odours and leaves the air smelling fresh again.
We would always recommend the replacement of any Pollen filter a car may have at the time of the AC servicing. The pollen filter is an item not usually included in the manufacturers servicing schedule and is chargeable extra. Please ask for a quote for your particular model. (Pollen filter prices vary from around £20 to £50 depending on make and model)
